I’ve started a series called Confessions of a Nutritionist . Today is More Savory recipes on the blog
I want to learn to enjoy savory food mentally, and physically. Five years ago I started digging into recipes, and different cuisines. That was very exciting time, but most of my research on the web back then, and now is for desserts!
Because I always thought that desserts are the getaway for creativity in cooking!

I feel like a hypocrite, advising people to eat healthy, to eat a balanced healthy diet, and choose carefully what do they eat. While I’m browsing treats on Pinterest!
Last week wasn’t so good to me, I was stressed. I was feeling wired. Thinking, and questioning things in my life, and life in general. I was tired, and unhappy.
What do you think I did to solve this problem?
- Yes, I did it vent it out to whom I trust, but it wasn’t easy.
- I didn’t feel motivated to cook, or make salads, or any healthy food.
- I had lots of donuts.
I was questioning my blogging ability. If just do what I do out of boredom, or to prove that I can do, and achieve things other than being a mother to my sweet little boy!
Eating sweets really didn’t help me, on the contrary it made feel more hungry, sluggish, and guilty. Not because I feel this way every time I eat donuts, or desserts, but because I really didn’t enjoy them as usual!
My mind was so busy, I wasn’t feel satisfied, it was extra empty calories, and that is a big no!
So I did really promised myself to make more savory dishes on the blog, this will help me, and others to stay on healthy track!
I already mentioned that I’m bothered that many dietitians, and food bloggers who are inspired by healthy lifestyle, post sweets recipes too much on their blogs! Even when they are healthy, and packed with nutrients, people are prioritizing the sweet flavor for breakfast, dinner, and treats in between!
Not everyone can control portions!

So Now why a confession:
Because, whenever I stumble upon a new blog, I always checks sweets, and desserts first thing!
It becomes a habit. Because you know, mom was not a baker, or a desserts fan (I guess she was too busy mom!) but she cooks very well. Therefore, when I grew up, and start cooking for myself, and my husband, I always wanted to discover more and more treats! I started with forums, but god blogs these days are so awesome!
Now I want to change that habit, I talked about desserts over, and over now! When I cut It back, and when I told the story of my love for baking, and when I eat it emotionally.
[Tweet “It’s time to move on, from making “Desserts” an issue in my life! “]
But the thing is sugar addiction is almost real! Still we need more research, and studies. Some scientists say that fructose (a simple sugar that is used in food processing) may act like alcohol, and other drugs!
Companies are using these facts, and added sugar in different forms to their products, even the ones that claimed to be healthy like the granola bars! And some other non-dairy products too! To make it more palatable, and desired by customers.
We have great exposure to desserts, whether as form of photos, and recipes on social media, or companies wanted us to be addicted to their products!
Its hard to do self control with all this, not easy at all!
But I really love food, I love going out for groceries, buying something new almost every time. Checking new food blogs always interest me, especially those with great photos! Google+ , food gawker, and Healthy Aperture, opened my eyes for new talented bloggers every day!
So I want to learn new tricks, and techniques! Do you watch Chopped? Or Master Chef? Playing with new, and unusual ingredients pairing is essential for creative recipes!
I believe that as a nutritionist I have a role in making this easier for people, making recipes of wholesome food, with different ingredients that is easy to find, and combine into recipes.
I may still post some desserts recipes, but i want to make the ratio real, an occasionally a sweet recipe! So we won’t be bored to make healthy food, or feeling pushed so hard to buy exotic imported food to be healthy!
