An easy to make, and assemble blueberry basil salad. It’s has crunchy texture with creaminess goodness too. It’s full of nutrients, antioxidant, protein and power!
Where should I start ? I’m not a big fan of raw salads.
But they are colorful, with a fresh taste. Eating a salads is an easy way to get a nutritious food, so I must eat them! And I prefer my food cooked, therefore I thought combining raw ingredients, and cooked ones is the way to go. And here I created this delicious basil salad fro you!
Basil
What I love about it, is the unique flavor and aroma. It is delicate, but yet have a strong flavor. Especially, when it’s fresh from the garden, or from the farmer market- where I had mine-. But I always hesitate to buy it, because it’s going to rotten in just few days, and the green leaves will become black due to oxidation. A great way I find to preserve basil is to keep it in oil, or butter in ice cube tray, and keep it until use. I know there is a lot going on in this salad. It’s a mixture of cuisines, I used bulgur from the middle eastern cuisine, here I talked all about bulgur and blueberry from the american one. And to make this salad a complete meal, I added light seasoned grilled chicken, and raw avocado, to add protein and good fats. This salad has very healthy ingredients, but today I’ll highlight basil.
Why you should eat Basil
In addition to the exotic aroma and bright green color, basil has many healthy benefits such as:
- Anti-inflammatory proprieties which helps the body to lessen the risk of having chronic diseases.
- It’s essential oil use to treat respiratory diseases.
- Also some studies shows chemicals in basil, that help in reducing blood sugar, which is very promising for diabetic people.
- And of course it has vitamins such as vitamin A. K and C , and minerals like magnesium.
