I’ve wrote lots and lots of details about scones and being gluten free in the post of coffee cinnamon scones. I love scones so much . I wanted a savory option that is fulfilling and satisfying. So I thought the combo of the cheese and butter. Enough said, no more words needed!
These cheesy scones are very easy to make with pantry staple items. Well, cheese is a staple item, isn’t? So you have cheese, eggs, butter and milk, like any regular vegetarian, and you just need to assemble the dough. And I’ll be honest with you here, I’ve been raised in the middle east, in Jordan specifically. And lived in different Arabic countries. Is scones the traditional breakfast? of course not! But me, as Sagittarius –do you believe in signs?- I’ve been rooted for desires for change. That’s why I love to try breakfast from different cuisines.
I don’t really eat traditional breakfast at home at all. And I’m also married to a man , that doesn’t like traditional breakfast, like Hummus, Say what?? Ya that’s sad. While I don’t eat hummus regularly now. I used to eat Hummus at my mom’s when I was in Jordan every Friday! Yes, mom takes her commitment very seriously, and it includes a weekly hummus.
Because these scones are gluten free, I don’t recommend making them with regular wheat flour. It will probably work, but this recipe is adapted to suit gluten free, so I can’t guarantee the results. But to make it even easier, I made it using the baking flour 1 to 1 by Bob Red Mill. It’s widely available in supermarkets, and fairly easy to use and you don’t need to keep xanthan gum in your cupboard. However, these days, when I’m away from the screen, I’m testing and working on to my own blend of flours. I’m so happy that, I’ve experimented with a lot of flours and starches this years. I’ll share them with you later when I have my mix ready for different baked goods.
I’ve choose this time to make a round shape instead of wedges, with being cheesy, it’s just feel the right way to shape the. Which team are YOU , wedges or round scones?
Can cheese be a part of healthy diet ?
Cheese has it’s share on the blog here. However, many of the recipe mentioned the Palestinian white cheese. You can always substitute with halloumi cheese. These cheese have less fat, comparing to cheddar, and brie.
In this recipe, I used Parmesan , mozzarella and cheese, they king of low fat cheese except cheddar of course. Well, this is not the healthiest recipe I’ve posted for breakfast on the blog. This is a bit indulgent, and please don’t try to skip cheese here or use low fat milk. Instead, have another healthy option for breakfast, so you won’t devour the whole batch!
However cheese is :
- High source of protein
- Good source of tryptophan and its’ amino acid needed to help producing Serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is responsible for the mood, sleep , and anxiety, you can say that cheese makes you calm and i’n a better mood.
- It’s very fulfilling and satisfying.
Happy Baking!
