Its a new year, a time for a new resolutions. I decided to share with you some confessions about living as nutritionist, in a crazy world. A world that is obsessed with fast food, treats, and following trends, and fads of healthy food at the same time. Which make many of us (Me at least) confused, and torn.
Industries, and national organizations are pushing for more consumption of sugar, dairy, and fat. Whether its the FDA, or the National Dairy Counsel trying to deceive us, or MacDonald. On the other hand, health advocates warn us of a new findings. How we all got wrong health recommendations. So what should we do? And how do feel about this?
So I’m starting a new series “confessions” Just so you know, this is more like a dairy
“Therefore, I’ve may mention some behaviors that are may not be acceptable for nutritionists to do. Or talking about breaking some rules. And these are not advice to follow. I may use “we” not just “I” . So no judgment here please, and lets talk like real friends”.
I want to shout out some things that I feel guilty about it or worried, sad, frustrated, angry, and maybe some happy thoughts sometimes! We won’t add more negative things to our lives, right? (And you won’t see this long introduction Again, I promise !)
And confessions has started ……
I’m an omnivore and I’m proud of it
I don’t follow gluten free diet.
I’m not following Paleo. Vegan diet is not for me, or a raw diet.
I love a good piece of steak, and I’m not ashamed to say I enjoy it!
I love pasta, white rice, and cakes too!
I’m not ashamed of eating white bread too!
Because I believe it’s okay. I truly remember when everyone is an omnivore, and we eat everything, meat, veggies, milk and eggs. I can eat anything, no strict rules. And when I say anything, I don’t mean gummies, or frozen dinner. Because these are not real food items! I have some precautions about excluding a whole food group. But there are many solid studies that support some of these diets. And I respect that. And I believe there are plenty of room to understand these diets. I do alternating between these diets. I had a Paleo meal almost everyday, and sometimes a totally vegan one! And I think it works for me this way! But omnivore is the way of eating all the time
If all of us are following Paleo, we may ending hurting our beautiful planet! If we all become vegan this instant, what will happen to all animals? Would that solve climate change issues? World hunger? What about eating strictly gluten free, will that end Autism? And saves all the stomach problems?
What if we all cook our food? Would that help us being more healthy? Yes, I believe so! I cook almost everyday. Not just for the sake of being healthy, but because I love cooking, and baking too! And I used to cook in unhealthy way in the past. But now, things have changed. I eat my vegetables, and fruits everyday. Whole grains, and dairy too. Not all of my days are perfect, but that’s okay for me. Why we are getting so obsessed of being label the healthy way of eating? like it will solve all the world problems? All the racism, social injustice? Yes, it will reduce the risk of obesity, inflammation, and chronic diseases. But it wont’ make us happier, or more productive.
I know eating less food, moving more, will help us to be alert. But I mean we got a huge stress on our shoulders. Making many of us living under constant stress. And under pressure of weight loss, optimum health, and perfectionism. And of course this obsession is more than for the motive of prevention of diseases. Usually we are worried about how we look, our body image.
I love this article in Today’s dietitian discussing how some RDs (registered dietitians) are struggling with their weight issues, and how this impact their jobs, and we don’t know if they are vegan, following paleo, or omnivorous! So nutritionists, dietitians are human too! But Most People judge by appearance. There are many thin people, that are not feeling healthy at all. Whether it’s an eating disorder, depression, or even a hidden disease.
Food is the main factor of being healthy, but is so complex, and not only thing to consider of being healthy. And Because we still don’t know which diet is the best, for now, I’m happy where I am!
So what about you? Do you feel the same? Are you an omnivore? Do you follow a certain diet? I would love to hear from you!
Omnivore and proud too
I have a autoimmune disease called ankylosing spondylitis which destroys my joints to put it bluntly and it’s recommended for me to eat meat and fish to give me the enzymes, protein and oils etc needed to keep them strong
Also we are an omnivorous animal, it’s natural for us to eat a balanced omnivorous diet
We eat too much meat in general yes and intensive farming is terrible yes and the system needs changing m. I’m a firm believer In continuing to eat meat in a more responsible and considered way
When Vegans preach and get judgemental they only make people react and do the opposite. It’s the absolute worst approach to make conditions better for animals and the planet
