I tried this drink in a restaurant in Dubai. After the first sip, I was over the moon! It was very refreshing, sweet and aromatic. It was hot outside, and we had extravaganza burger sliders. So washing them off, with this drink, was more than perfect!
And after some research, I found that Lebanese make mint lemonade this way. They add orange blossom water to many desserts , and to this drink too. So I’ll add it to the Arabic cuisine series
It’s funny that mint lemonade is very famous in the middle east, especially in Levant area. But, I don’t remember mom making it in the summer. Well, not at all, we used to have it, but without mint. And when we were used to visit mom’s friends or our friends, I would pick a cola or soda over a sour lemon juice. I had a crazy sweet tooth, I learned the hard way to reduce my cravings for sugar. To remind you, mom makes everything from scratch, and love to eat everything in it’s whole shape. Which means she prefers to eat whole fruits instead of drinking a full cup of juice.
Why this mint lemonade is healthy
Because:
It has abundance of mint
- lt has high antioxidant activity, also it’s antimicrobial and anti-tumor, and can work as anti-allergic too.
- It helps in indigestion, flatulence, and gases.
- A natural breath freshener.
- It has Pure honey
- It has Lemon that has huge amounts of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) that plays role in the body function, boost immunity because it has antioxidant capacity . Also, it has role in collagen making in the body, thus help with reducing wrinkles, and makes the skin looks better and more radiant.
When a recipe calls for few ingredients, high quality food items is a must. However, here in Dubai, unless you get organic fruits and vegetables, they will not taste so good. I’m working on getting that. But I was lucky, and found good lemon, and mint. But the latter looks to me to like spearmint. Because it has a bit of curly shape, and has more row on the leaf, and less mint flavor. It has less menthol than mint.
And of course the honey, the raw pure one is perfect for this recipe. And since pure honey sometimes is scented from certain flowers, pick one without flavor, so it will not affect the taste of this juice.
I made two versions for YOU one with sugar, no mint, which is really how I’m used to drink lemonade. The second one is with mint added, honey, and orange blossom water which makes it much healthier.
You can find orange blossom water in healthy shop or specialty shops. I recommend this brand. I used it a lot when I was living in the united states.

Mint Lemonade with Orange Blossom Water
Ingredients
- 1 -2 whole lemons peeled and pitted of seeds*
- 1 lite of water
- 1 Tb of Sugar
- 2 Tb honey, Optional
- 1/2 to 1 tsp orange blossom water
- A handful of mint leaves
Instructions
- Put whole lemons and water in the blender until mixed.
- Divide the juice to two parts, add sugar to one part and blend it again in the blender.
- Return the juice without sugar to the blender, add honey (optional), and mint.
- Add orange blossom water in your jug or bottle , and stir.
- Keep in the fridge for few days. it will not go bad quickly, but the benefits of vitamin C will be less.
Notes
I actually put more than two lemons, because I made more than I litre of juice. However, to ensure that the lemonade is not very sour, 1 lemon per litre of water is a good ratio. Start with that, then add more lemons if needed
if you want the lemonade plain, skip mint, honey and orange blossom water. Add 1 T of sugar to 1 litre of water
