These elegant vegan tahini mousse cups are so easy to make . They are flavorful, power house of nutrition. They are vegan , gluten free, and refined sugar free too!
I’ve made desserts before with tahini, like these brownies, and these chocolate bars. However, I didn’t make a dessert with tahini being the star of it. So, I decided to make one, this tahini mousse dessert wa sthe result after some recipe development. And since we are in Ramadan, desserts with middle eastern staples perfectly fit.
Well, I’ve tried to make this tahini cream before, and added lots of stuff to make it creamy. Tapioca, coconut milk, coconut cream, honey, big quantity of tahini, but the taste was weird. It was so creamy, but thick, starchy, strong flavor of tahini, and not enough spiciness or sweetness. I was desperate and added oatmeal, brown sugar, white sugar, maple syrup, and cinnamon! That didn’t save it, but it started to become a messy blob. I baked it, and I kind of saved it. But It wasn’t presentable or have the right texture.
So, to offer you a unique, elegant and easy dessert, I went for a traditional middle eastern route here, dates and tahini. However, I didn’t just added date syrup or molasses, but made a caramel of it. Since tahini is overpowering, you can still taste it with just the right amount of creaminess, and sweetness. I’ve mentioning this, so not to give up on making your own desserts or your own recipes. Sure, the kitchen will get messy and you will need to clean up harder, but you will learn a lot form your mistakes. And, there is always pinterest to use leftovers or transform any kind of cooking/baking mess.
Why do you need to add tahini to your diet
I’ve talked a lot about tahini here on the blog. It’s a sesame seeds butter, that is a popular spread in the middle east . So I grew up having tahini more in savory dishes than in sweets. Think Hummus, kofte bel tahini (meatballs with tahini ) Mudamas potato, (Arabic style mashed potato) and much more!
Here are some of the health benefits of tahini:
- Sesame seeds has good amounts of calcium, copper, and Vitamin B1
- It has polyunsaturated fats, and antioxidants.
- It can lower cholesterol, and can decrease risk of CVD in diabetic patients
When I was in the states, I used to use Ziyad brand for tahini, which is really good. Now when I’m back to the middle east, and there are so many options, I found . Al Nakhla (the palm) brand to be the best, you can buy it here
And don’t forget Dates, one of the best fruits, fresh or dried that is super healthy for you, and very versatile. I’ve talked a lot about it on the blog. Use it as a sweetener or thinking agent, or as it is, Check recipes here .
